We found Kevin in this pose when we checked on him on last time tonight. I love that he can always make us laugh - even when sleeping.

Bumbo & TummyTime

Anyone with a new baby has heard of the Bumbo seat..... supposedly, it helps babies develop the muscles they need to use when sitting up. Kevin doesn't really like his Bumbo seat too much, I think it is because his chubby thighs get stuck in the seat (he definately gets his thighs from his Mother!) Oh well, we will keep trying with the seat, maybe he will like it soon...

Kevin is much stronger now -he can hold his head up really well. He likes tummy time much more than the Bumbo seat:

Father's Day photos

Imagine this scene - 7 adults sitting there watching 1 baby enjoy Baby Einstein. We have come along way from the type of parties we used to throw!

Farmer's Market

Wednesday's are a fun day for me & Kevin. In the mornings we go to our Baby Buggy Bootcamp. We power walk & do other strength exercises; Kevin & the other babies chill out in their strollers. Well, hopefully he sleeps in the stroller, sometimes it doesn't work out that way. The class meets at the lakefront, so it's a great way to take advantage of this great city. After class today me & another mom went to the Chicago Green City Market for lunch & enjoyed sampling lots of organic food & shopped for veggies & flowers. The babies slept most of the time, but we think they had fun. We are still trying to master our new camera, but here are a few shots from the last few days:

Eating his hand is his new favorite thing to do! (The reason he is naked in this photo is because we had just dealt with a major diaper blowout. It was near bath time, so why fuss).

Father's Day

Nate enjoyed his first Father's Day very much. Grandmom & Grandpop, Uncle Brian, Uncle Joe & Aunt Nicole were all here for a bbq.

Nate has had his eye on a new digital camera for the past few months. Kevin did some shopping & got his dad a wonderful new camera to mark the occasion of his first Father's Day. But, as we were learning to use it today we accidentally deleted all the cute pictures we took during the day! Oops!!! Too bad you won't be able to see the photos of Kevin in his Polo plaid golf pants watching the U.S. Open with his Dad & Grandpop :(


Nate is currently trying to convince me to wake Kevin up so they can get a photo together to commemorate the day. No way! He is sleeping so peacefully... so the best we could do is this photo....he is very tired after all the excitement today.

Classics Kid

Kevin is normally a very happy kid. But, like most babies he is fussy in the evening. After talking to other moms I have learned that nearly all babies are fussy during these "witching hours". Some nights I just hold him & walk around to soothe him, but tonight we tried something different. I played the Baby Einstein dvd for him & he loved it! I wasn't sure about exposing him to much TV, but this seemed okay. He waved his arms and bounced in his chair as the classical music played. Sometimes I play classical music on my ipod during the day, now that I think he likes it I will play more.

Grandma Becky

Grandma Becky came from Colorado to visit Kevin. We spent lots of time with family this weekend; there were many extra hands to help feed & play with Kevin. He is a very lucky baby.

Swing

Okay, so a few weeks ago I thought that Kevin's playmat was the greatest thing ever. The playmat still holds his attention while he is awake but his new swing is a miracle! I don't know why we didn't get one of these sooner. I was trying to keep all the baby gear to a minimum so we could actually walk through the living room - but who cares about that -this swing is great! We were lucky enough to borrow the swing from our friends, Jeff & Tonya. For the past few nights Kevin has been taking a snooze in it while we have dinner. This has allowed Nate & I to eat dinner like normal people, not speed eaters. We have actually been able to talk with one another over dinner, imagine that! I wonder how long this will last...

2 months old

Today, Kevin is 2 months old. I am so happy to say that this month was sooooo much more fun than the first month! This makes me so much more excited for the months & years ahead. We feel like we are adapting to life as a family so much better. We understand more of what Kevin needs and I think we are able to respond so much better to him (therefore, a lot less tears). We learned that feeding Kevin before he becomes hysterical makes everything easier. We also learned that Kevin loves to ride in the car, except when there are red lights! This month Kevin has learned to find his hands and soothe himself (somewhat) by sucking on his fingers. He smiles at faces and whenever he looks in the mirror. He can lift his head up while lying on his stomach (if only for a few seconds). He is also very vocal and will "talk" with you when he is really happy. We are very blessed to have such a happy, healthy baby.

2 months old:

I noticed that every time we are outside Kevin seems to squint. I didn't think it was fair that Nate & I are always wearing sunglasses, but Kevin had no help with the glare. So, I bought him these sunglasses that I saw on-line. I don't think he likes them very much & Nate thinks they are totally ridiculous.

Cheer for the Cancer Walk

This morning we were up & about early to cheer on Mom's friend Shari as she walked to raise money to fight breast cancer. Kevin put a smile on many of the walker's faces. We saw them at mile 8, only 31 miles left to go!!

A day in the life...

Don't you wish you could remember what it was like to be a baby? Over the past few months I have really tried to remember, but I can't. Kevin has a great life! Last night he slept from 9:30 to 6:30 am, then woke up for breakfast. After a lot of smiles and another round in his bouncy chair Kevin was worn out and went back to sleep. He is so wonderful in the morning, tons & tons of smiles in the morning. Sometimes it makes it hard for Nate to leave for work. As soon as he wakes up from another nap, I am ready to take him for a long walk, then it's time for our lunch. The afternoon is rounded out by more fun in the bouncy chair, more smiles and another long nap! (sometimes a nap for me, too!) What a wonderful life. Aside from the lifestyle, another great thing about being a baby is the wardrobe. Kevin has so many clothes, they are all adorable. I am stressed out that he won't get to wear them all before he out grows them. The evening is a little more tricky. Sometimes after his bath, Kevin is so exhausted from his lively day that he is fussy. He usually conks out around 8:30 or 9. I hope this sleeping-through-the-night trend continues!
