Opening Day

Kevin does not remember, but he watched many Cubs games with me last summer. We took many naps together last season, back when Kev could take a nap on my chest. Those were great days. Nate would come home from work and ask me how many naps we had that day. I would usually lie. (I never thought I would miss those early days).

It's fun to watch our neighborhood come alive with the excitement of another season. Now, it just needs to get warm to really enjoy it!
In honor of today's opening day of the Cubs season, Kevin is wearing his new baseball jersey from Grandmom & Grandpop :)

(Also, you should know, it's really hard to take Kevin's photo now - he will not sit still! I doubt this is a surprise to you experienced Moms & Dads who read this blog!)

ps - Nate wants me to add "GO TWINS". I told him that no one in Chicago cares about the Minnesota Twins, but he is excited for a new season, nonetheless. Poor Kevin, will be so confused on all the sports teams in our family!

Kevin tries to help.

Kevin loves to "help" with whatever we are doing. His natural curiosity leads him into whatever we may be doing around the house. You already know that the washing machine fascinates him, but he also loves to crawl through the piles of warm, clean laundry. To make him feel like he was helping me, I put him in the basket to hand me pieces of laundry to fold. This worked well, until he tipped the basket over and landed in the piles of folded laundry. Thanks for your help, buddy!

Thanks again to Lily, Kevin loves this book and recognizes so many of the words and pictures. We read it everyday.

Kevin never wore his super cute Easter outfit last Sunday because he was sick, but we did get a shot of him with his Easter basket and one with Nate blowing out the candles on his birthday cake :)

Happy Easter

So, it's the end of the day on Kevin's second Easter Sunday. We are trying to decide which of Kevin's two Easters have been the most fun. Both have been memorable, but neither one too fun for us. Last Easter, we came home from the hospital with our new baby boy. We were so scared, exhausted and clueless. I was really looking forward to this Easter as a celebration of many things; Nate's birthday, the start of springtime and giving Kevin his Easter basket. Well, Kevin threw us a curve ball. He got sick on Thursday night and it peaked last night with an-almost-trip to the emergency room. His fever was high and he had the chills so badly he couldn't stop chattering. With lots of motrin-tylenol-motrin-tylenol,, a cool bath & Pedialyte, his fever finally broke this morning. Lucky for me, Nate is a pro at taking Kevin's temperature the old fashioned way. Everyone is doing so much better today.


So, we didn't get a cute Easter photo of Kevin today, but here is a reminder of him last Easter :)

Dad's helper

Yesterday was Nate's 30th birthday. We are having a family dinner on Easter and a super-fancy night on the town with Nicole & Joe in a few weeks, so last night was a quiet night at home. Kevin was excited to help Dad setup his birthday present, a Wii.

toddler-hood is around the corner

I have slacked on the blog lately, so here is some catch-up. Kevin is cruising; caution for all future babysitters! In the past 2 weeks his crawling has gotten very fast, he is pulling up to standing and climbing over everything. We love to make him an obstacle course on our bedroom floor with tons of pillows and watch him climb. He is pulling up to the furniture and starting to "walk" along. His behavior is becoming more independent like a toddler, not a baby anymore. I can tell he is close to giving up his bottles because he loves his sippy cup and only tolerates his bottle for a few minutes.


Last weekend we attended our first 1st birthday party for a little girl in our playgroup. I caved and let Kevin taste some cake, just a few weeks shy of his 1st birthday. Of course, he loved it, and cried when it was all gone. No doubt, he will have a sweet tooth, just like his mom.

Kevin & Aunt Nicole

Kevin had his Aunt Nicole & Uncle Joe babysit last Saturday night. They were practicing for their big weekend in April, so this was a dry run for everyone. They did great and Kev was in bed by 7:15 :)

Why didn't I think of this before?

A great source of entertainment for our toddler-to-be... the washing machine. This was the first time he saw it spin, fascinating! Why do we spend money on toys? Between this and the Quaker Oats container, we are set!

One month to go until Kev's first birthday! We are excited :)

This photo was taken at dinner time tonight. Not a surprise, Kevin is a terrific eater. I hope this continues, not sure when the picky-eater phase will begin. He will eat just about anything, as long as he feeds himself. Nearly a toddler, he is bored with eating jarred baby food from a spoon. New favorite foods: cheese quesadillas, sliced turkey, scrambled eggs, peas, mashed potatoes & turkey meatloaf.

Mom's night out

I have mentioned this before; the Mom's Group/playgroup we belong to is wonderful group of Mom's and babies. The group started last summer when we were all mommy novices. Over the past 9 months we have all become great friends and even enjoy a night out without the babies every once in while. Last month we went to Cuatro, a really cool cuban restaurant in the South Loop. A great time & many mojitos had by all! Now, as all the kids are celebrating their first birthdays, we are getting to meet each other's families, that is fun too.

Kevin has learned how to rock the chair by himself. He laughs so hard everytime we him let do it. I suppose all those late nights rocking in the chair with Mom or Dad have made an impression on him!

Long Sunday for Kevin

Today we tried something new... keeping Kevin awake through his morning nap in the hopes that he would take a long afternoon nap. Boy, did he take a long nap... I woke him up when he crossed the 3 hour mark! He was so groggy when he woke up, we were convinced he thought it was morning because we were there to greet him with a and a big bottle.

I am not sure if he is ready to give up the morning nap, but good to test it out on a weekend. Here is his photo at 10:00 AM today (normal nap time) as we were taking Kevin to church instead. A surprise to us, he made it through the service with better than expected behavior.
