Last weekend I was away on a reunion trip with my friends from college. We spent a great weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.

Nate spent four days alone with the kids. He did great! I had prepped my friends at preschool that Nate would be coming last Thursday. All the moms there were happy to see Nate and offered to help him. Of course, Nate could handle things by himself. Super Dad Nate even managed to repair the washing machine while I was gone! (He has never done a load of laundry since we moved here, but he did it while I was away and the machine broke). So, instead of spending his nights alone watching sports (while I was drinking beer in Nashville) Nate dismantled the washing machine to find the broken part, spent lots of time on the phone with Sears to find the part, drove both kids to the store to buy the part and had the entire mess fixed in time to watch the end of the Masters on Sunday. I was impressed!

4 years old!

Saturday we hosted Kevin's 4th birthday party at Backyard Adventures. All the kids and parents had a blast.

Today is Kevin's birthday. He thinks it's so funny to eat breakfast for dinner so we are having bacon and pancakes, his favorite. For breakfast this morning he wanted a turkey & mustard sandwich and potato chips :)

So much fun at Rieman Gardens

Yesterday we took a ride to Ames to visit family and went to the butterfly exhibit at Rieman Gardens. The butterfly house was indoors of course, but we were also able to explore the outdoor ponds and gardens.

They gave Kevin a magnifying glass to examine the butterflies and bugs, he loved that!

James is adorable wearing Kevin's Cub's jacket. I am thrilled to see another cute baby boy wear it.


Happy belated birthday to Lana, we were so glad to come for a visit. Kevin loves going to Lana's house! She has a fun basement, park in the backyard, cool fish pond, and he tells me that Lana is way nicer than me. She is!

I can't believe Kevin will turn 4 in a few weeks!

Today I said "Kev, you're almost 4, you're getting old". In return he smiled and said "I'm not old, I'm new"!

He is so excited for his super hero themed birthday party. Yes, he will wear the cape, mask and cuffs to his party!
