Kevin's 5th birthday was terrific!  He started the day by wearing his new Wild Kratts Creature Power t-shirt!  He LOVES the show Wild Kratts on PBSKids!

At preschool, he shared treats with the class and all of his friends sang happy birthday.  Nate came home in the afternoon and we gave Kevin his new bike.  It's a bit bigger than he is used too, but I'm sure he'll get comfortable with it quickly.  We all took a trip to the Science Center where we raced lego cars, built rockets, explored the ball wall and bubble centers.  We ended the day with a trip to the "fancy" McDonald's (ie - the one with a play area).  Both kids had a great day!

At 5 years old, Kevin can:
-Nearly read from many of his favorite books
-Write all letters & numbers.  He's interested in spelling words and sounding out many words.
-Still loves to play with matchbox cars, dinosaurs, superhero toys & tinkertoys
-Dress himself, but has no interest in picking out his own clothes yet
-Climb, run, hop, gallop, skip and do all the big kid stuff at our favorite local park (this is so frustrating to Katie, who wants to do everything her big brother can do!)

Ice cream faces!

It was nearly 90 degrees here last Sunday - what an excuse to stop for ice cream on the way to an easter egg hunt!

Writing

We have noticed a HUGE improvement in Kevin's writing over the past few months.  At the start of the school year he refused to write his name and hated to color.  Now, he loves to "take notes" at school, write lists and attempts to spell.

Well, his 5th birthday is two weeks away.  Kevin is constantly talking about toys he would like for his birthday.  I decided to have him write his own wish list.  In case you can't make  it out here here is what he wrote:

Spring Break

This week is spring break, no preschool, no activities for us.  We are staying busy with a good old fashioned stay-cation.  That means lots of time for playing on the swingset and in our new sandbox. Luckily, the weather has been awesome!  It's such was such a surprise to have such warm weather - I had to run to the store to buy some t-shirts and shorts that fit the kids.  On our shopping trip, both kids got new sunglasses.

Kevin really likes the new m&m's commercial.  He thinks they're saying "I'm sassy and I know it".  The first time I heard him say this along with the dancing, I nearly spit out my coffee.

The process, not the product

I've recently learned from the teachers at preschool that art projects are about the process, not the product.  Kevin has been very interested in writing and coloring lately.  He's begged me to buy more paint!  I had feared the mess, but it's not too bad.  We get the paint out about once a week.  Katie is currently obsessed with coloring!  She wants to color all the time.  (Most recently, she kept herself very entertained while waiting at the doctors office - she colored the entire length of paper on the examine table.  The doctor was impressed)!  I now carry a few crayons and paper with me for emergencies.

Good thing Nate was home, we put both kids directly in the tub when we were done :)

Pinterest & Houzz - you're killing me!

 With so many ideas for our house, I never seem to be able pull the trigger and make a decision.  Well, thanks to my awesome Dad & husband, we have a new backsplash in the kitchen.  Project completed!  Nate & Dad spent last weekend on the project.  It looks great, this picture does not do it justice.

If you have not heard of Pinterest ~ consider yourself less of a time waister than me.  The website is full of pictures of beautiful home decor, fashion, kids projects, cooking, crafts.  It's totally addicting and I can spend an entire evening pinning away future projects for our house.

We're close to making a decision on re-siding our house this summer (you may be tired of hearing us talk about this).  I found this front door photo on Pinterest to give us inspiration!
